Question 114: To ask the Minister for Transport further to his failure to address the issue in his response to a submission in Dáil Éireann on 16 February 2006, if the Government intends to subsidise the operations of Iarnród Éireann between Ennis and Galway and subsequent routes on the western rail corridor when it re-opens, similarly to the other subsidised routes on the Iarnród Éireann network; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I have recently received proposals from Iarnród Éireann in respect of phase one of the Ennis to Athenry section of the western rail corridor. My Department is currently assessing these proposals and I will be in a position to make a decision on the funding of the capital and current costs of the line following completion of the assessment.
