Question 660: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if grants are available to persons or companies to dispose of asbestos; if it is the responsibility of local authorities to dispose of such problems if the asbestos is attached or on a site of the local authority; and if he will make a statement on the matter. No such grants are available from my Department. If waste asbestos is present on a local authority site, it would be the local authority's responsibility, as a holder of waste, to dispose appropriately and safely of this waste material.
