Question 288: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children if her attention has been drawn to the fact that a person (details supplied) is undertaking work on a regular basis on behalf of the Health Service Executive; and her views on whether it is appropriate that the Health Service Executive should engage this person. I am aware that the person referred to by the Deputy facilitated the agreement brokered between the Health Service Executive, HSE, and the IMPACT trade union in December 2004 with regard to the reassignment of senior managers from the health boards to positions under the new unitary structures of the HSE, and that he is still involved on an occasional basis in dealing with residual issues under that agreement.

Section 24 of the Health Act 2004 empowers the HSE to engage such advisers as it considers necessary for the performance of its functions. Accordingly, it is entirely a matter for the executive to decide whom to engage to undertake work on its behalf.
