I refer to the reply to Question No. 1515 of 25 January 2006. In light of Government policy on the regulation and control of numbers in the public service, including local authorities, and of the impact of economic and population growth in the functions and services of local authorities, I am keeping the overall employment position in the local government sector under regular review. My Department will continue to maintain appropriate contact with the Department of Finance in that regard.
