Question 214: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children her views on the decision by the all-party Oireachtas committee that the Constitution should be amended to give regard to the best interests of the child, rather than toprovide that the best interests of the child should be paramount as recommended by the constitutional review group. I am studying the recommendation of the All-Party Committee on the Constitution based on the findings of that group. I am conscious that the committee's findings were based on a wide consultation with submissions from the public, including individuals and interest groups. I will be considering the recommendation in the context of Ireland's ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, other international instruments to which Ireland is party and the existing provisions of Irish law.
