Question 509: To ask the Minister for Education and Science if there is help of a financial nature available to a person in receipt of the widow's pension, in relation to pre-leaving certificate costs, such as exam papers and other expenditures; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The position regarding the alleviation of entry fees for the State examinations is that students who are covered by the general medical services card scheme, either directly or as the dependents of medical card holders, are not liable to pay fees.
My Department has no function in respect of the costs associated with school based tests, for example, mock examinations, as they are not part of the State examination system. Accordingly, there is no financial assistance available from my Department for such costs.
