Question 749: To ask the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of jobs created with the assistance of the IDA in County Mayo in 2005; the breakdown of the jobs lost in County Mayo for the same period; the companies which lost or increased jobs in 2005; and the number of persons currently employed in IDA supported factories in County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. IDA Ireland is the agency with statutory responsibility for the attraction of foreign direct investment, FDI, to Ireland and its regions. The Forfás annual employment survey records jobs gained and lost in companies supported by the IDA. Data is compiled on an annualised basis and provisional data on a county basis for 2005 in respect of IDA client companies is not yet available from the agency.
At the end of 2004, 22 IDA supported companies were operating in County Mayo, employing 3,213 persons. During 2004, 145 new jobs were created in IDA supported companies in the county and 400 jobs were lost in supported companies. The table below provides a sectoral breakdown of jobs created and lost in IDA supported companies in County Mayo.
