Question 450: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if he will review the constraints of the cap on local authority staffing levels for local authorities in the greater Dublin area in view of he enormous population increase these local authorities have had to cater for since December 2002; if he will sanction the increase in staffing levels required to enable Kildare County Council to staff adequately the new library in Leixlip, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I refer to the reply to Question No. 250 of 1 December 2005.
The Government's intention to continue to regulate and control numbers in the public service within agreed ceilings was confirmed by my colleague, the Minister for Finance, in his Budget Statement on 7 December.
