I have allocated a sum of €1 million in my Department's 2006 Estimates to facilitate the establishment and operation of the Grangegorman Development Agency. Grangegorman is a unique site and is of strategic importance in the context of Dublin as a whole and to the north inner city in particular. The Grangegorman Development Agency Act 2005 makes provision for the establishment of an agency to undertake the development of the Grangegorman site as a location for education, health and other purposes. The agency will consist of 15 members and will include representatives of the principal stakeholders. The functions of the agency include, inter alia, the promotion of the Grangegorman site as a location for education, health and other facilities, to co-ordinate the development or redevelopment of the site, to engage in the planning process, to decide on the appropriate procurement strategy, to arrange an appropriate communication strategy and to consult stakeholders and relevant interested third parties. I am giving active consideration to the appointment of the chairman and membership of the agency.
