Question 514: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the position regarding the provision of a sewerage treatment plant for Clifden town, County Galway; if the necessary funds have been allocated by his Department for this work; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the bay waters have been polluted due to inadequate or untreated sewerage flowing directly into Clifden Bay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Clifden sewerage scheme is approved for construction in my Department's water services investment programme 2004-2006. Galway County Council's preliminary report for the scheme is being examined in my Department in conjunction with a supplementary site location report and a hydrographic marine survey and a reply will issue to the council within a matter of weeks. Once the preliminary report has been approved the council will be in a position to prepare contract documents.
