Question 218: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children the estimated cost of the concluded inquiry into the diocese of Ferns and child sexual abuse; the cumulative costs incurred by her Department in respect of all inquiries relating to Ferns, specifically legal fees and other professional fees and the cost of Civil Service time; if the Catholic Church and the diocese of Ferns will be required to pay any part of the cost; the parties which may be awarded their costs for assisting the inquiry; and if she will make a statement on the matter. To date, inquiries into the diocese of Ferns have cost €2,379,264.17. The costs are broken down in the following table.

Invoices for legal representation have been received from the diocese of Ferns and from one individual. The Government has not made a decision on the payment of these costs and the advice of the Attorney General has been sought with the intention that a Government decision will be made in due course.
