Question 112: To ask the Minister for Agriculture and Food the response she has received to the letter sent by her and ten other EU Agriculture Ministers to the Agriculture Commissioner, Mariann Fischer Boel, urging a more balanced approach to the reform of the EU sugar regime; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The joint ministerial letter in question was submitted to the Commission in advance of the formal discussion at last month's Council meeting, setting out the objections of the group to the proposals. A formal written response has not been received from the Commission to this letter. However, the sugar reform proposals will be considered again at next week's Council of Ministers, at which the UK Presidency is striving to reach political agreement. I remain resolute in pursuing my overall objective of achieving a more balanced agreement, which will take Irish interests into account.
