As part of the ongoing programme to review and rewrite the administrative series of Defence Force regulations with a view to their simplification and modernisation, my predecessor, Deputy Michael Smith, signed into effect on 18 December 2001 a new regulation entitled Defence Force Regulations A.9 (New Series) Dress and Medals. This regulation revoked Defence Force regulations A.9 Dress — Na Boinn Óglaigh and Defence Force Regulations A.19 — Medals and Decorations.
