My Department's records indicate that there are currently approximately 3,956 teachers in non-permanent teaching positions in voluntary secondary schools and community and comprehensive schools. In the case of schools within the vocational education committee, VEC, sector the details requested by the Deputy are not held in my Department, as the appointment of teachers is a matter for the relevant VEC, subject to agreed procedures. There are currently 2,985 qualified teachers in temporary teaching posts at primary level.
I can also confirm that my Department's records indicate that there are currently 13 seconded teachers at primary level and 24 seconded teachers at post-primary level who, in the absence of a base school, have been assigned to a notional school for payment purposes.
