The person concerned submitted an application to remain in the State on the basis of being the parent of an Irish born child under the revised arrangements announced by me on 15 January 2005 for the processing of applications for permission to remain in the State from the non-national parents of Irish born children born before 1 January 2005. The application is being processed at present and the person concerned will be advised of the outcome shortly.

Some 18,000 applications to remain in Ireland under the revised arrangements were received by the closing date of 31 March 2005. Some 15,800 have been processed to decision stage, of which approximately 500 have been refused permission to remain.

In the absence of the appropriate visa application reference number, it has not been possible to identify any record of a visa application from the person named in the details supplied by the Deputy. If such an application exists, the Deputy may wish to contact my Department through the standard channels, with the reference number, at which time my officials will ascertain the status of the application. If necessary, the applicant should initially contact the Irish consulate in Kenya to obtain the correct visa application reference number.
