Under the Road Traffic Acts the courts have the power to disqualify from holding a driving licence a person who is convicted of a crime or offence in the commission of which a mechanically propelled vehicle was used. In assessing the good repute of applicants for a road freight carrier's licence, my Department takes account of convictions for breaches of the law by applicants, as advised by the Garda Síochána.
