Question 114: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children if her attention has been drawn to the fact that 1,137 appointments at Letterkenny General Hospital had to be cancelled in the first half of 2005 due to the ongoing bed shortage at the hospital and that the average bed occupancy throughout 2005 in the hospital has been 105%, with patients at times on trolleys in the coffee dock of the hospital; when the management of the hospital will be granted the 70 extra beds that are urgently required; when she will meet with the union representatives of the staff at the hospital to discuss this crisis; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Deputy's question relates to the management and delivery of health and personal social services, which are the responsibility of the Health Service Executive under the Health Act 2004. Accordingly, my Department has requested the parliamentary affairs division of the executive to arrange to have this matter investigated and to have a reply issued directly to the Deputy.
