Question 122: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if he will introduce legislation to give new powers to the Environment Protection Agency to prosecute local authorities who supply a chronically contaminated public water supply; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Water Services Bill 2003, which is before the Dáil, provides for a comprehensive legislative code to underpin the delivery of water services. Enforcement provisions in the Bill are being reviewed at present and I will be prepared to facilitate on Committee Stage any reasonable provisions to strengthen current arrangements which may be considered necessary.
