Question 469: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the measures he will take to end the discrimination encountered by tenants in the private rented sector in receipt of rent allowance who despite having references are refused accommodation by landlords solely due to their status as persons in receipt of rent allowance. The Equal Status Acts 2000 to 2004 prohibit discrimination in the provision of accommodation on nine grounds — gender, marital status, family status, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, race and membership of the Traveller community. Being in receipt of a rent allowance is not of itself a discriminatory ground within the meaning of the Equal Status Acts 2000 to 2004. A review of the grounds of discrimination under the equal status Acts is to take place shortly within my Department.
