Question 142: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children if her attention has been drawn to concerns that the failure to provide adequate funding for the supports necessary for older persons to remain in their own homes was increasingly forcing many of them into nursing homes; if her attention has further been drawn to the significant reduction in the number of home help hours in different parts of the country and the substantial waiting lists for the home care grant; if additional funding will be provided for both of these services; if she will publish the total hours for home help services in 2002, 2003 and 2004 in respect of each county; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Deputy's question relates to the management and delivery of health and personal social services, which are the responsibility of the Health Service Executive under the Health Act 2004. Accordingly, the Department has requested the parliamentary affairs division of the executive to arrange to have this matter investigated and to have a reply issued directly to the Deputy.
