Question 348: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason an application for the extradition of a person (details supplied) in County Wicklow was not made in order that the trial could be held here where the murder occurred; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The system which was in operation at the time for extradition between Ireland and the UK was based on Part 3 of the Extradition Act 1965. In accordance with the provisions of Part 3 it was a matter for the Garda Commissioner, in consultation with the Director of Public Prosecutions, to decide on such matters. Neither I as Minister nor my Department had any role in the procedure.
