Question 371: To ask the Minister for Transport the number of new commuter carriages due for delivery to the Drogheda depot; the date upon which the carriages are expected to be commissioned; the details of the timetable revision expected on the Drogheda and Dublin lines effective from the December 2005 timetable revision; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Iarnród Éireann is taking delivery of 36 — nine sets of four carriages — new class 29000 railcars. These add to the 80 units of the same type of rolling stock that it introduced into service during the second half of 2003. All these units will be serviced and maintained at the new rolling stock depot at Drogheda. The new units are being commissioned and will be introduced into service over the coming months as commissioning and testing is completed.

The allocation and timetabling of trains is an operational matter for Iarnród Éireann to consider. However, the company has informed me that the introduction of the new railcars will provide the opportunity to introduce some new services where most required and a revised national timetable will be introduced in December.
