The Costelloe regional water supply scheme, which will provide a new water supply source for these areas, and Carraroe sewerage scheme which protects the existing Carraroe water source are both approved for construction in my Department's water services investment programme for 2004 to 2006. I have approved Galway County Council's preliminary report for the first phase of the regional water supply scheme. I understand that the council has now commenced preparation of the environmental impact assessment for the scheme and is in the process of appointing consultants to prepare contract documents.
The council's tender recommendations for the upgrading and rehabilitation of Carraroe's sewage collection network were received in my Department last month and are under examination. They are being dealt with as quickly as possible. Tender documents for the wastewater treatment, which is being grouped with a number of other schemes in the county for procurement purposes, are awaited by my Department from the council.
