There have been contacts regarding a request from the Colombian authorities for the extradition of three persons but there have been no discussions with respect to an extradition treaty between the two countries. With the appearance of the so called Colombia three in Ireland in August 2005, a major Garda investigation was immediately put in place. This investigation, which is ongoing and active, has involved, inter alia, the interview of the three persons in question and a recent Garda visit to Colombia. The Garda Síochána remains in close contact with the Colombian authorities in respect of matters of mutual interest and importance, with a view to progressing the Garda investigation.
