I propose to take Questions Nos. 883 and 888 together.

A meeting of the single payment advisory committee comprising representatives from my Department, Teagasc and the farming bodies was held recently to discuss the rules governing the allocation of the national reserve and in this regard, I intend to announce details in due course. The position with regard to the allocation of entitlements from the national reserve is that it is envisaged at this stage to make allocations in eligible cases by 1 December 2005.

Discussions are ongoing between Enterprise Ireland and the company on the contingent liability arising from the decision to discontinue the slaughtering and boning activities at Roosky, County Roscommon, while retaining and developing the cannery operations from the Roosky site, and having regard to the company's other investment plans. The total amount paid by my Department in the past ten years was €390,000, in addition to which it is understood that grant aid of €1.2 million was paid to the company by Enterprise Ireland and its predecessors. My Department, in conjunction with Enterprise Ireland, is continuing to examine the complex issues arising from the closure of the plant. It is expected that a conclusion on the question of the grant aid will be reached in the near future.
