Question 326: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children her Department's policy in regard to the provision of acute care for patients in State run nursing homes who have acquired MRSA; if there is a regular testing protocol for such patients; and if she will make a statement on the matter. If a resident in a State-run nursing home acquires MRSA, and requires treatment in an acute hospital, that resident is transferred to an acute hospital for appropriate treatment. There are policies and procedures in place in public nursing homes to prevent the spread of MRSA.

The Deputy's question relates to the management and delivery of health and personal social services, which are the responsibility of the Health Service Executive under the Health Act 2004. Accordingly, my Department has requested the parliamentary affairs division of the executive to arrange to have a reply issued directly to the Deputy in relation to this matter.
