An tArd-Chláraitheoir, or the Registrar General, is the person with statutory responsibility for civil registration in Ireland. I have made inquiries of the Registrar General and will set out the position as it stands. Section 65 of the Civil Registration Act 2004 makes provision for the holding of an inquiry by the Registrar General about whether a particular life event has been registered and, if so, whether the registration has been correct and complete. This section came into law through the Civil Registration Act 2004 (Section 65) (Commencement) Order 2004.
