Question 509: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason the value of properties seized by the CAB between 1997 and 2004, with the exception of 2002, were considerably lower than the value of property seized in 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I understand from the Garda authorities that the value of seizures was higher in 1996 than in subsequent years because the Criminal Assets Bureau was ready to take immediate action in a number of substantial cases as soon as the Proceeds of Crime Act 1996 was commenced.
