Question 619: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when a decision will be made in the case of persons (details supplied) in County Kilkenny who applied earlier this year for permission to remain in the State on the basis of their Irish born child and if a decision on the case will be expedited. Applications for permission to remain in the State under the revised arrangements announced by me on 15 January 2005 for the processing of applications from the non-national parents of Irish born children born before 1 January 2005 were received from the persons concerned on 27 January 2005.

Some 18,000 applications were received under the revised arrangements and more than 7,600 have been processed to date. I understand decisions on applications from the persons concerned will issue shortly.
