Question 290: To ask the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the rapidly deteriorating condition of the monument known as Connolly's Folly, Maynooth, County Kildare; if his attention has furhter been drawn to the fact that the area is frequently used as an illegal dump and there have been countless indications of the intention to restore the structure; if he will take immediate action to address the issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As I have indicated repeatedly in reply to previous questions on this matter, the folly is subject to continual monitoring by my office and no significant deterioration has been observed. Should any such deterioration be detected appropriate remedial action will be taken. No major works are planned for the structure currently. A clean-up of the site was recently of organised by my office and measures are being taken to examine the feasibility of improving security in order to deter casual dumping.
