Question 176: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children if the consultation process that is to be set up by An Bord Áltranais regarding changes to qualifications needed for those wanting to become public health nurses will be open to the public; the person who will be leading the said consultation process; and if it will solely involve stakeholders. An Bord Áltranais is the statutory body responsible for registration, control and education of nurses and midwives in Ireland. The board is responsible for the setting of requirements and standards in relation to the education programmes for registration, including registration in the public health nursing division of the register. In this regard, An Bord Áltranais is in the course of establishing the consultation process, to which the Deputy refers.
As this process is an operational matter for the board, I suggest that the Deputy contact the board directly regarding further detailed clarification.
