Question 36: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of occasions since June 2002 on which aircraft have been chartered to facilitate the deportation of persons; the cost involved in such charters; the number of persons deported in this way and the number who were children; the overall costs involved, including Garda man hours; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I refer the Deputy to the reply I gave to Question No. 14 on Tuesday, 17 May, last. Since then, a further charter flight to Romania was carried out on 1 June 2005, returning a total of 58 persons including eight minors. Of these, 36 were subject to deportation orders, 19 had been refused leave to land in the State and a further three persons returned home voluntarily after withdrawing their asylum applications. The cost of the flight was €82,720, excluding Garda expenses which are not available for the same reasons given in my earlier reply.
