Question 93: To ask the Minister for Transport the most recent figures available for the percentage of freight traffic in this country being carried by rail and by road; the relevant statistics for five, ten and 20 years ago; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21099/05]

While the rail freight share of the overall freight market has declined over the period 1985 to 2003, not all freight is amenable to carriage by rail. Current policy in relation to freight is set down in my reply to Questions Nos. 82 and 117 of today's date.
