Question 580: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if he will provide funding to Waterford County Council to assist it with the remediation of two landfill sites for which an exorbitant amount of money is needed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The management of landfills, including necessary after care when such facilities close, is a matter for the operators of those facilities, in accordance with relevant statutory obligations. Funding is available to local authorities from a range of sources, including general purpose grants from my Department's local government fund.
