I am pleased to inform the Deputy that the school in question has accepted the grant for the provision of an extension under the 2005 small schools initiative which I announced recently. The school authority is managing this project on a devolved basis and I understand works commenced on-site last week. My Department's school building section expects to be in a position to pay out the initial portion of the grant in the coming weeks.

On 20 April 2005, I outlined details of 124 capital projects that are being authorised to progress through the architectural planning process, including the project for the school referred to by the Deputy. The projects allowed to progress through the planning process have been assessed as priority projects. They are in areas where demand for school places is increasing or where current facilities are considered inadequate to cater for existing needs.
The school planning section in my Department is carrying out an assessment of the future accommodation needs of the school in question, including projected enrolments. When this analysis is complete, my Department will be in further contact with the school authorities.
