Question 101: To ask the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the amount that has been invested by the State in broadband under the programme for Government; the amount likely to be invested over the remainder of the Government's term; and if he will make a statement on the matter. A total of €64 million of European Regional Development Fund and Government funding was invested in the first phase of the metropolitan area networks programme in the years 2003 and 2004. A multi-annual budget of €105 million, or €35 million for each of the three years 2005-2007, has been set aside for the second phase of the MANs programme. A sum of €25 million has been earmarked for the county and group broadband schemes.
