Question 208: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the Brothers of Charity in Galway may not have sufficient funding to provide respite services for children reaching the age of 12 on or before 6 March due to a reduction in the budget available to Galway children respite services; if her attention has further been drawn to the fact that one child (details supplied) needs such a service; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Health Act 2004 provided for the Health Service Executive, which was established on 1 January 2005. Under the Act, the executive has the responsibility to manage and deliver, or arrange to be delivered on its behalf, health and personal social services. This includes responsibility for funding of respite services. Accordingly, my Department has requested the chief officer for the executive's western area to investigate the matter raised and to reply directly to the Deputy.
