Question 33: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the progress made with regard to the Garda investigation into the major money laundering operation uncovered earlier in 2005; if a file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am informed by the Garda authorities that the Garda investigation, which is extensive both within and outside the jurisdiction, remains ongoing and active. Upon completion, a file will be submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
All possible avenues of information that might assist in furthering the case are being explored, and a key focus is the links between the money seized and the robbery of the Northern Bank in December 2004.
As the Garda investigation remains ongoing, I do not consider that further, detailed comment on the matter would be appropriate.
