Question 274: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the reason no allocation was made to Waterford County in the fire services capital programme 2005 in respect of fire station development projects in regard to Tallow, Dungarvan and Portlaw which are awaiting approval; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Waterford County Council's proposals for new fire stations at Tallow and Portlaw, together with an extension to Dungarvan headquarters fire station, are under consideration in my Department in the context of the fire services capital programme. Having regard to the overall availability of resources under the programme it was not possible to approve additional fire station projects in Waterford this year. However, my Department has provided €2.3 million to Waterford County Council for fire services investments since 1997, including funding for a new fire station currently under way at Ardmore.
