Question 348: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his views on the citizenship and safety education initiative being undertaken by the PSNI to address the needs of vulnerable young persons through a programme, available in Irish and English, taught by officers in schools; if he will make a statement on the initiative and his plans for similar action in this jurisdiction. While I have no specific comment to make in respect of the PSNI programme to which the Deputy refers, I would broadly welcome any initiative which aims at addressing the needs of vulnerable young people. For a number of years, the community relations section of the Garda Síochána has operated a schools programme dealing with a range of issues, including safety of young people.
