Question 469: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the amount of funding made available to local authorities to enable them to pay for summer employment schemes for students; and the number of local authorities which will have such schemes in operation in 2005. No specific funding is available from my Department to local authorities for a summer employment scheme for students. The employment of staff, including any summer employment, is a matter for each local authority. The cost of any such summer employment would be met from the authorities' own resources income and from other income received including general purpose grants from the local government fund.
