Question 230: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children if the Government will bring into force a special blue card system similar to that in force in Great Britain and Northern Ireland whereby persons with disabilities over the age of 18 years of age are issued with a blue card; if she will consider the introduction of this scheme; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 229 and 230 together.

I understand that the Deputy is referring to the need to minimise the degree to which people with disabilities are required to undergo repeated medical eligibility assessments. I would support measures to address this matter. I envisage that this matter will be considered in the context of the needs assessment process being developed under the Disability Bill.
