Question 14: To ask the Minister for Transport the extent and outcome of discussions he has had with all interested stakeholders in relation to the reform of the Transport Act 1932 and the issue of introducing competition in the Dublin bus market; when legislation to effect such reforms is anticipated; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Since my appointment last year, I have met the management of Bus Éireann and Dublin Bus as well as the CIE unions and ICTU on the reform of the bus market. There have been subsequent discussions between officials of my Department and the parties involved and these discussions are continuing. Officials in my Department have also met with the Coach Tourism and Transport Council representing the indigenous private bus companies. It will be a number of months before I am in a position to bring forward legislation to replace the Road Transport Act 1932.
