Question 87: To ask the Minister for Foreign Affairs his views on the 2004 figures of 158,549 US troops using Shannon Airport as a refuelling base [i]en route[/i] to the occupation of Iraq, including more than 22,000 troops in the month of September alone, and the implications for Irish neutrality. The use of Shannon airport for transiting purposes by the US military is a long standing practice which has been ongoing for several decades. The Government's decision to allow US military personnel to continue to transit through Shannon Airport was endorsed by Dáil Éireann on 20 March 2003.
