Question 88: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children the number of persons over the age of 70 in possession of a medical card who were or are at the higher capitation and at the lower capitation rate on 1 June 2002, 30 September 2004 and 31 January 2005; and the number at the latest date for which figures are available. Question 89: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children the proportion of medical cards in circulation which provide medical cover for more than one person; the average number of persons in such cases; the proportion of medical cards currently in circulation which provide medical cover for only one person, that is, the card-holder; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Information from the Health Services Executive shared services' primary reimbursement service for February 2005 indicates that 766,342 cards are in circulation and that the number of eligible persons covered is 1,142,618, or 1.49 persons per card. A more detailed breakdown of the total figure, in the manner specified in the question, has been requested from the HSE and will be forwarded to the Deputy as soon as possible.
