Question 398: To ask the Minister for Agriculture and Food the action she has taken with regard to three Irish livestock export companies that were fined a total of €18,000 in December 2004 for serious breaches of EU animal transport law after failing to give cattle travelling in four livestock vehicles the required number of hours' rest in France; and if these companies have been suspended from the register of approved transporters. The Department of Agriculture and Food is investigating the matter referred to by the Deputy. A report about the incident has been requested from the French veterinary authorities. Submissions on behalf of the operators are also being examined. Any action which might be taken in respect of the transporter will be considered after all the circumstances of the case have been established.
