Question 314: To ask the Minister for Education and Science if it is possible that a school (details supplied) in County Kerry be considered as co-educational in view of the fact that it has boys up to first class; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2516/05]

The school referred to by the Deputy is recognised as a single-sex girls only national school, which provides primary education for boys up to first class, as is common in many national schools throughout the country. However, agreement to amalgamate has been reached between the management authorities of this school and an all-boys national school in the area and the proposed new school will be recognised as a co-educational school.
