Question 352: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the officer posts that exist in each local authority that can be described as environmental protection posts. [24113/04]

A range of posts at local authority level can be described as environmental protection posts. These include director of environmental services, environmental scientist-chemist, environmental enforcement officer, environmental awareness officer, environmental education officer, litter management officer, environmental technician. However, local authority officers across the management, administrative-clerical, professional, technical and general operative grades also discharge many local authority functions relating to environmental protection, including the provision of drinking water, waste water treatment, waste management, and environmental licensing, monitoring and regulation. Each city and county manager is responsible for making such staffing and organisational arrangements as are necessary for carrying out the functions of the local authorities for which he-she is responsible.
