An abandonment order in respect of a rail line, or a part thereof, may be made by the board of CIE under the provisions of the Transport Act 1950. A resolution by the board is required. This resolution must be published in Iris Oifigiúil and in newspapers circulating within the catchment area of the line in question. The authorities responsible for roads in the area must also be notified. No abandonment can take place until one month after the publication of the resolution. The statutory procedures for the abandonment of public roads are set out in Part 11, section 12(1) to (10), of the Roads Act 1993.
