The Ombudsman for Children was appointed by the President on 18 December 2003 following a resolution of both Houses of the Oireachtas. The Office of the Ombudsman for Children was formally established on 25 April 2004 and is in temporary accommodation. A number of staff were selected and have taken up duty with the office. Arrangements are currently being put in place to assign the remaining staff complement to the office. The permanent location for the office has been selected and is being prepared for occupation.
